Install Keepsake on Any Device
Keepsake is a Progressive Web App (PWA). That means you can install it on any device — phone, tablet, or computer — just like a regular app, but without going through an app store. It launches instantly, works offline, and takes up almost no storage space. Below you'll find step-by-step instructions for every platform.
Why install Keepsake as an app?
Install on iPhone / iPad (Safari)
Open Keepsake in Safari
Go to app.keepsake.place using Safari. Make sure you're using Safari, not Chrome or another browser.
Tap the Share button
Tap the Share icon at the bottom of the screen (the square with an arrow pointing up).
Select "Add to Home Screen"
Scroll down in the share menu and tap "Add to Home Screen". You may need to scroll right on the row of icons to find it.
Name the app and tap Add
Keep the name "Keepsake" or customize it. Tap "Add" in the top right corner. The app icon now appears on your home screen.
Tip
Once installed, Keepsake opens in full-screen mode without Safari's address bar. It looks and feels like a native app.
Install on Android (Chrome)
Open Keepsake in Chrome
Go to app.keepsake.place using Chrome.
Look for the install prompt
Chrome often shows a banner at the bottom saying "Add Keepsake to Home screen". Tap "Add" if you see it.
Or use the menu
If you don't see the banner, tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner and select "Add to Home screen" or "Install app".
Confirm the installation
Tap "Install" in the dialog. The Keepsake icon now appears on your home screen and in your app drawer.
Tip
On some Android phones, installed web apps appear in your app settings just like regular apps. You can manage notifications and permissions from there.
Install on Mac (Safari or Chrome)
Option A — Safari (recommended on macOS Sonoma+)
Open app.keepsake.place in Safari. Click the Share button in the toolbar, then select "Add to Dock". Keepsake will appear in your Dock as a standalone app.
Option B — Chrome
Open app.keepsake.place in Chrome. Click the three-dot menu at the top right, go to "Save and Share" (or "More tools"), then select "Install Keepsake". The app will install and open in its own window.
Launch Keepsake from the Dock
After installation, click the Keepsake icon in your Dock to launch it. It opens in a dedicated window, separate from your browser.
Tip
With Safari on macOS Sonoma and later, web apps added to the Dock get their own separate cookies and storage — your Keepsake session stays independent from your Safari browsing.
Install on Windows (Edge or Chrome)
Option A — Microsoft Edge (recommended)
Open app.keepsake.place in Edge. Click the three-dot menu at the top right, then select "Apps" > "Install Keepsake". The app installs and opens in its own window.
Option B — Chrome
Open app.keepsake.place in Chrome. Click the three-dot menu at the top right, go to "Save and Share" (or "More tools"), then select "Install Keepsake".
Pin to the taskbar
After installing, right-click the Keepsake icon in the taskbar and select "Pin to taskbar" so it's always one click away.
Tip
On Edge, installed web apps can be managed from edge://apps. You can set them to launch at startup or customize their window behavior.
Logging in to the installed app
Use a password (recommended for mobile PWAs)
Magic Links (the login links we send by email) may open in your regular browser instead of the installed Keepsake app — this is a known limitation on mobile. The simplest fix: create a password for your account. Go to app.keepsake.place on your computer, then navigate to User Menu > My Account > Create Password. Once set, you can log in to the mobile app with your email and password.
Already logged in on desktop?
If you've been using Keepsake in your browser, your data is safe in the cloud. Once you log in on your phone (with your password), all your contacts, notes, and tasks will be there — everything syncs across devices.
Magic Links still work in the browser
On desktop, Magic Links work perfectly. This limitation only affects installed mobile apps where the email link opens in the default browser instead of the PWA.
Tip
Creating a password doesn't remove Magic Link login — you'll have both options available. Use whichever is most convenient for each device.
Using Keepsake offline
Capture notes anywhere
The QuickNote bar works offline. Write your thoughts on the subway, on a plane, or anywhere without signal.
Your data syncs automatically
When your connection returns, all offline changes sync in the background. You don't need to do anything.
Troubleshooting
"Add to Home Screen" option is missing (iPhone)
Make sure you're using Safari. On iPhone, only Safari can install web apps. If you opened a link from another app (like Mail or Messages), the page may open in an in-app browser — tap the Safari icon in the address bar to open it in Safari proper.
Login link opens in the browser, not the app (mobile)
This is a known PWA limitation on mobile. Create a password from your desktop (User Menu > My Account > Create Password) and use it to log in to the mobile app. See the Logging in section above.
The app doesn't look right after installing
Try uninstalling and reinstalling. Remove the app from your home screen (or Dock/taskbar), clear your browser cache, then follow the install steps again.
Notifications aren't working
Make sure you've allowed notifications for Keepsake in your device settings. On iPhone: Settings > Notifications > Keepsake. On Android: Settings > Apps > Keepsake > Notifications.
Tip
If you're still having issues, try updating your browser to the latest version. PWA support improves with each update. You can always reach us at support@keepsake.place.
