Import & Export Your Data

Your data belongs to you. Keepsake makes it easy to import your existing contacts via vCard and export everything whenever you need. No lock-in, no hidden barriers — just seamless data portability.

Your Data, Your Choice

At Keepsake, we believe your personal data should never be held hostage. That's why we've built robust import and export features from day one. Whether you're migrating from another app, creating backups, or just want peace of mind knowing you can leave anytime — we've got you covered. Our commitment: You can always export 100% of your data in standard, open formats.

Import Your Contacts

Bring your existing contacts into Keepsake in seconds. We support vCard (.vcf) — the universal contact format used by Apple, Google, Outlook, and virtually every contacts app. You can import: a single-contact vCard, a multi-contact vCard (your entire address book in one file), or multiple individual vCard files. No need to import everything though — you can also start fresh and add contacts naturally as you go.
1

Export your contacts as a vCard file

First, export your contacts from your current app as a .vcf file. See the section below for step-by-step instructions for each platform.

2

Open the User Menu

In Keepsake, click on the User Menu — it shows your name. On desktop, it's at the bottom left. On mobile, tap the menu icon at the top right.

3

Select "Import a vCard"

Click "Import a vCard". A file picker opens — select your .vcf file.

4

Choose your .vcf file

Browse and select the vCard file you exported. Keepsake will read all the contacts in the file.

5

Done!

Your contacts are imported instantly into Keepsake with their names, phone numbers, emails, and other available information.

Tip

Don't feel pressured to import everything at once. Many users prefer to start fresh and build their Keepsake naturally — adding contacts as they interact with them.

How to Export Your Contacts as vCard

Before importing into Keepsake, you need to export your contacts from your current app or device. Here are step-by-step instructions for every major platform.

Export from Mac (Apple Contacts)

The simplest way to export all your contacts at once on macOS.
1

Open the Contacts app

Launch the Contacts app on your Mac.

2

Select your contacts

Select the contacts you want to export. Use ⌘A to select all, or hold to select specific contacts.

3

Export as vCard

Right-click on one of the selected contacts and choose Export vCard… (or go to FileExportExport vCard…). Choose where to save the .vcf file. You'll get a single file containing all your selected contacts.

Tip

You can also drag and drop contacts directly from the Contacts app to your Desktop — this creates a .vcf file automatically.

Export from iPhone / iPad

Apple doesn't offer a built-in vCard export on iOS, but here are two easy methods: Method 1: Via iCloud (recommended) Go to icloud.com/contacts on a computer, sign in, select all contacts (⌘A or Ctrl+A), then click the gear icon ⚙️ → Export vCard. Method 2: Via Mac If your contacts sync with iCloud, they're already on your Mac. Use the Mac export method above. Method 3: Share individual contacts Open a contact on your iPhone, scroll down and tap Share Contact. This creates a single .vcf file you can send to yourself via email or AirDrop.

Export from Android (Google Contacts)

Export your Android contacts via the Google Contacts app or website.
1

Open Google Contacts

Open the Google Contacts app on your Android phone, or go to contacts.google.com on a computer.

2

Select contacts

Tap the three-line menu ☰ → Select all, or pick specific contacts by long-pressing and tapping each one.

3

Export

Tap the three-dot menu ⋮ → Export. Choose vCard (.vcf) as the format. The file will be saved to your device or Downloads folder.

Tip

On the web at contacts.google.com, go to the sidebar → Export → choose vCard (for iOS Contacts) — this works perfectly for Keepsake too.

Export from Windows (Outlook / People)

From Outlook (desktop app) Open Outlook → People (or Contacts). Select the contacts you want, then go to FileOpen & ExportImport/ExportExport to a file → choose Comma Separated Values. Note: Outlook doesn't natively export vCard for multiple contacts. For a single contact, open it and use FileSave AsvCard (.vcf). From Windows People app The Windows People app doesn't have a direct export feature. The easiest approach is to sync your contacts with a Google or Outlook.com account, then export from the web version. From Outlook.com (web) Go to outlook.live.com/peopleManageExport contacts. This exports as CSV. You can convert CSV to vCard using free online tools, or contact us at support@keepsake.place for help.

Export from Google Contacts (Web)

Use the Google Contacts website to export all your contacts as a vCard file.
1

Go to Google Contacts

Open contacts.google.com and sign in to your Google account.

2

Select contacts to export

In the left sidebar, click Export. Choose All contacts or select specific contacts first.

3

Choose vCard format

Select vCard (for iOS Contacts) — this creates a standard .vcf file that works perfectly with Keepsake.

4

Download

Click Export. The .vcf file downloads to your computer, ready to import into Keepsake.

Export Your Data

Your data belongs to you — always. Keepsake makes it simple to download everything or leave whenever you want. All data management happens in one place: User MenuMy Account.
1

Open User Menu → My Account

Click on the User Menu (your name, bottom left on desktop — or top right on mobile), then select My Account.

2

Download all your data

Click Download my data to get a complete export of everything in your account: contacts, notes, tasks, entries — all of it. The file will download to your device.

3

Or delete your account

If you wish to leave, you can also delete your account from this same page. This permanently removes all your data. We recommend downloading your data first, just in case.

Tip

We recommend downloading your data regularly as a backup. Your data is safe with us, but it's always good to have your own copy. Need to cancel your subscription instead? That's in User MenuAccountSubscription.

Privacy & Security

Your data stays yours We never sell, share, or monetize your personal data. Keepsake is funded by subscriptions, not advertising. Encryption All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256). Your exports are generated securely and transmitted over HTTPS. Account deletion You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from User Menu → Account → Delete Account. This is permanent and irreversible. For more details, see our Privacy Policy.

Our Commitment: Your Data Is Safe, No Matter What

Keepsake is built to last — but we know trust is earned, not assumed. Here's what we promise: Your data is always exportable You can download all your data at any time, in standard JSON format. No lock-in, no barriers. If the service ever stops While this is not in our plans at all, if Keepsake were to discontinue one day, we commit to: 1. Notifying all users well in advance 2. Keeping the service running long enough for everyone to retrieve their data 3. Providing additional export tools to other formats if needed A mutual commitment Subscribing to Keepsake is a trust relationship. You believe in what we're building, and we commit to being worthy of that trust — through transparency, data portability, and respect for your privacy.

Troubleshooting

Import failed? Make sure your file is a valid vCard (.vcf) file. If the file seems corrupted, try exporting it again from your contacts app. Keepsake only supports vCard format — other file types (CSV, Excel, etc.) are not supported. Missing fields after import? Keepsake imports the fields included in your vCard file: name, phone numbers, emails, addresses, birthdays, and notes. Some apps may not export all fields to vCard — check your source app's export settings. Need help? Contact us at support@keepsake.place — we're happy to help with data imports and any questions.
